5/24/2012

Today when we came to class, our attachment was missing AGAIN!! Also, there were sensors missing, so we had to reattach that too! We had to rebuild it. It didn't quite turn out how we wanted it. My partner and I worked on the egg challenge again. We had trouble with it running into to volcano. After the egg challenge, we checked our tape challenge, but there were some programming blocks missing, so we had to add some. Then, when we test our robot, it didn't turn in the right direction, so we had to change that also.

Today we had a lot of problems with our robot. When we got our robot, he was almost destroyed, his sensor was hanging off and our attachment was not there. We had to reattach the sensor and remake our attachment. After we attached our pieces, we worked on our egg challenge. Our robot did not to the same as last week, so we edited some of the programming.

Today, my partner and I discovered that our programming did not save. We had to remake what our robot did. After we programmed it, we noticed that our attachment was gone! We had to sit there and rebuild our attachment. We couldn't get it exactly the same as it was before, but it served the same purpose. When we first tested our robot, it kept hitting the volcano, so we made it to where he did not push the egg too far out of the circle. I added wait time blocks, so we could see what we needed to do to help our robot succeed. We figured out that we should make the robot turn wider so it's not in the path of the volcano.

5.14.2012

Today, my partner and I tried to finish the egg challenge. We started off our robot, and it wouldn't turn, so we made the turn a lot wider. That helped fix the problem. After that, our robot wasn't going far enough so we made our rotations longer. When we fixed our rotations, we got our robot to get one of the eggs out. Then, we programmed Tigger to go back to the other egg. After we got our robot to the other egg, we had to start blogging, so that is as far as we got today!

5/10/2012

Today we tried to to do the cube challenge and the egg challenge. Our robot would not turn again, so we made its turn wider. We also had to add a longer attachment so it could push the eggs successfully. Whenever we were trying the cube challenge, we could figure out how our robot would move the cubes without going crazy. To fix that, we thought of building a new attachment to "catch" the cubes. We never actually started to build it, but we thought of ideas we could use.

5/8/2012

Today my partner and I attached the attachment we are using to "grab the tape". At first, we had problems with our robot not turning at all. To fix that, I made the turn a lot wider and switched to to turn the other way. This worked, but we did not have the right amount of rotations for our robot to make it without running into things. We changed and tested our robot about five or six times. I had to put in wait blocks so we could see what our robot was doing. Finally, on the last try, we got our robot to turn successfully, but he did not reach the point he was supposed to. My partner and I did not attempt to solve the cube challenge or egg challenge.

April 30, 2012

Today my partner and I were supposed to start a plan. We didn't really understand the challenge that the plan was about, so Mr. Wegscheid explained the challenge to us. Me and my partner started thinking about what we could do. We also started gathering our screenshots for our paper. Now, we need to figure out what attachment we will add to our robot and make a plan for how our robot will solve the challenge! :)

Here is a screenshot of the blocks I used to program the robot! Today my partner was not here, so I had to program Tigger to use the Ultrasonic sensor. At first, I was really really confused and I didn't really know what the sensor was supposed to do. Whatever I tried, my robot just went in random circles. I asked someone for help, they told me to put it in a loop. I put my blocks in a loop, had Mrs. Wegscheid check it. She said that it was fine. I was happy! :)

4/19/2012

Today Kirby and I finished our light sensor packet. After that, we programmed our touch sensor so we could get a grade on it. Last, we started working on ultrasonic sensor. We are having trouble with that one the most. I'm not sure how to program it successfully.

4/18/2012

Today filled filled out a paper on our skills. We were supposed to build the touch and ultrasonic sensor, but the other group already had built them. We programmed Tigger to move forward when he hit a wall. The first time didn't work, but the second did. The way we programmed the ultrasonic sensor did not work at all!

4/16/2012

Today in robotics, Kirby and I had to remake the touch sensor. We had to take the first one apart, then put it together again because the first one was not correct. We were about to finish the touch sensor, but we couldn't find a piece that we needed. We asked another group, but they didn't have an extra piece. We haven't figured out how we will make the touch sensor work better than the light sensor. Next time, we will attempt to finish building the touch sensor, then test it out. I also need to finish my packet.

I was sick and I don't have my information yet. You can look onto Kirby's blog to see the info she has gathered! :)

3/26/2012, 3/30/2012

Today Kirby and I were supposed to put a light sensor on our robot. We put the sensor on, but it was to close to the table so we raised it up. We were the first group to attach the light sensor. We held Tigger on different colored surfaces to find different light sensor value percentages. When we found theses percentages, we used them to find the trigger point value. The trigger point is (40%+66%)/2 which equals 53%. With the trigger point value, my partner and I are going to try and get our robot to follow a black line.

3/22/2012

I took a screen shot of what our robot accomplished. All that we and our robot accomplished was half of the figure eight. Almost every time we programmed our robot, it would not do what we asked it to do when we ran it. We also could not get the turns right. After we tried to fix each turn, they would all either be too wide or not wide enough!

3/09/2012

Today my partner and I attempted to do a figure eight. Every time, our robots turns were either too wide or not wide enough. We finally fixed its turns, then right when we started to record our work, the robot messed up and its turn was bad! Next time we are going to try to make the other half of the figure 8

3/7/2012

Today we programed Tigger to do a figure eight. The first run, Tigger wasn't even close to making a figure eight, it looked like he was having a seizure. Next try, his turn was too wide so we had to lessen his turn. Then, Tigger would not program, we had to get the teacher to come make Tigger feel better. We shut down the program, reopened it, then everything was better. On the last try, Tigger's turn was not big enough, so he kept running into the blocks making the figure eight.

3/5/2012

Today we made Tigger go forward then backwards 50 cm. We were successful with that. Then we tried to make Tigger go forwards 50 cm, turn, then go back 50 cm, except our turns were too big and we couldn't figure out how to make the turns smaller. Also, Tigger's wires kept getting in the way of his wheels, and would block him from moving. Kirby and I tied his wires so he wouldn't be blocked anymore. Next time we are going to try and master a figure eight so we can have free time on Friday! :)

2-28-12

Today in robotics, Kirby and I built a robot. We put the wheels on backwards and had to start all over. We tried to work really fast except we did not get our robot finished. We almost finished building it, all we had left was about 3 or 4 steps. Next time, I will be sure that we read the instructions more carefully so that we can get our robot done! :) We were supposed to be able to build the robot in 5 minutes, but it took us like 30 minutes...

02/13/12

Our challenge was to build a structure that holds a book. The materials we could use were 20 unbroken spaghetti, 30 marshmallows, ruler, and small books.
 Design Brief:
Our product reaches the requirements of the design because it was at least 4.5" tall. We also used the right materials; spaghetti and marshmallows. Our product was not successful in holding a one pound book.

Our product will help or change society, because everyone can look at our mistakes so they don't have to make the same design mistakes as us. It can also help society be letting people get and idea of what shapes and materials to build there products.
I think our performance on this product was proficient because we worked as a team, and only missed one of the requirements.
If I were to do something different, I would have put more support and not eat the marshmallows. I would have also made more than one sketch just in case my first design didn't work.

Here is my sketch for the design.

01/18/2012

Today I emailed my blog URL to Mrs. Wegscheid. Now I am going to be in a group with Kirby and Nancy. We are going to build a tower using uncooked noodles and marshmallows. I think the hardest part will be trying to create three sketches and making one successful.
